about

Welcome …

Hi, I’m Alyssa — a vocal educator, choir director, songwriter, and performer. For more than 20 years, I’ve been sharing my voice on stage, and for the past 10+ years, I’ve been helping singers of all ages discover their own authentic sound through vocal empowerment and functional voice training. I’m passionate about all things voice — not just the art of singing, but the confidence, creativity, and deep self-connection it can unlock.

My own vocal journey has been anything but linear. For a long time, I tried to make my voice fit into a box of what I thought it “should” sound like. After many ups and downs (and even a season of giving up singing altogether), I rediscovered my voice through songwriting. That experience reshaped how I view my voice, my body, and myself. I learned that every sound has value, that uniqueness is a strength, and that I can be both a songwriter and an opera lover, both a lifelong student and a dedicated teacher.

This perspective continues to guide my work today: nurturing singers to trust and love their instrument, celebrate their individuality, and embrace the joy of music-making.

If you’d like to know more about my background, training, and career, you’ll find details below.

Recognized for her versatile and emotive lyric voice, Alyssa has performed with numerous opera companies across Ontario and trained at esteemed programs in Canada and Europe. With more than 20 years of stage experience, she is a seasoned recitalist with an extensive art song repertoire. Operatic highlights include Micaëla in Carmen (Toronto City Opera); Marcellina and Susanna (cover) in Le nozze di Figaro (Accademia Europea dell’Opera); Miss Jessel in The Turn of the Screw (Western Opera); La Bergère in L’Enfant et les Sortilèges (Vera Causa Opera); Mrs. Hayes and Susannah (cover) in Susannah (Long Reach Opera Workshop); Anna Gomez in The Consul (Long Reach Opera Workshop); Female Chorus (cover) in The Rape of Lucretia (MY Opera); and Giovanna in Rigoletto (Opera by Request).

Beyond classical music, Alyssa is an accomplished cross-genre performer and songwriter. With her soul/pop band Lyssa & the Try-Tones, she has released three EPs—Basement City View (2022), Chasing Shadows (2023), and New Love: Side A (2025). The band has earned two SaskMusic Award nominations for R&B Artist of the Year (2023, 2024), opened for Boney M, and performed at major Saskatchewan festivals including the SaskTel Jazz Festival, Regina Folk Festival, Napatak Ramble, and Gateway Festival.

At the heart of Alyssa’s work is her belief that cultivating love and trust in one’s instrument builds confidence, unlocks creativity, and fosters a deep connection to both body and self.
